Ans: Text is any coherent stretch of language that conveys meaning and allows interpretation.

Ans: Cohesion is the grammatical and lexical linking within a text or sentence that holds a text together and gives it meaning.

Ans: Pragmatics is the study of meaning in situation or in context

Ans: In linguistics, a speech act is an utterance defined in terms of a speaker's intention and the effect it has on a listener.

Ans: A presupposition is an implicit assumption about the world or background belief relating to an utterance whose truth is taken for granted in discourse.
6. What is a face-threatening act? [NU 2013]
Ans: A face-threatening act is an act which challenges the face wants of an interlocutor. It may threaten either the speaker's face or the hearer's face, and it may threaten either positive face or negative face.
