Liberty does not descend upon people. People must raise themselves to it. It is a fruit that that must be earned before it can be enjoyed. That freedom means freedom only from foreign dominations is an outworn idea. It is not merely the government that should be free but people themselves should be free and no freedom has any real value for the common man or woman unless it also means freedom from want, freedom from disease and freedom from ignorance. This is the main task which confronts us if we are to take our rightful place in the modern world. We can't hold the clock back and therefore, it is we who must go forward at a double pace bending all our resources and all our energies to this greats purposr.

বঙ্গানুবাদ :স্বাধীনতা মানুষের কাছে নিজে নিজে নেমে আসেনা। এটা পেতে হলে মানুষকে জেগে উঠতে হয়। এটা এমন একটি ফল যা ভোগ করার আগে অর্জন করতে হয়। বিদেশী আধিপত্য থেকে মুক্ত হওয়াই স্বাধীনতাÑ এটা সেকেলে চিন্তা। কেবল সরকার মুক্ত হলে হবে না জনগণকেও মুক্ত হতে হবে। অভাব, রোগ, অশিক্ষা থেকে মুক্ত হতে হবে, না পারলে কোন স্বাধীনতা জনগণের কাছে অর্থবহ হবে না। আধুনিক বিশ্বে টিকে থাকতে হলে আমাদের এ কাজটি করতে হবে। আমরা পিছনের দিকে যেতে পারিনা এবং সকল সম্পদ ও শক্তি নিয়ে দ্বিগুণ উৎসাহে মহৎ উদ্দেশ্যে সামনের দিকে যেতে হবে।
